Success For Microlynx

by Laura

Microlynx are pleased to announce that six members of the team have successfully passed their Electrotechnical Certification Scheme exam.

ECS stands for Electrotechnical Certification Scheme – it’s the sole ID and competence card scheme for electrotechnical operatives in the UK and it’s recognised and endorsed by the industry.

Holding an ECS card proves your qualification status, main electrical occupation, identity, your health and safety awareness, as well as any additional disciplines in which you are skilled to work.

The ECS is a partner of CSCS and covers not just core electrotechnical occupations, but specialised industries such as building controls, data communications, highway electrical and fire & security.

Microlynx works hard to build a trustworthy reputation and are delighted to be a part of the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme.

The 30-year history of MicroLynx Ltd

by Laura

The 30-year history of MicroLynx Ltd30 years at Microlynx

In 1987, Director Gary Pedley was working for a Yorkshire based company employed to test and repair speech synthesisers and when required to make up cable assemblies.

This latter part of the business was clearly in demand so Gary decided to start up a business on the outskirts of Bradford making cable assemblies custom to customer’s specification, and with the aid of a grant from the Prince’s trust, he started soldering cables on an old kitchen table.

After about a year of making and selling cable assemblies one of his regular customers asked if he could install some custom-made cables in a solicitor’s office in Leeds to allow the sharing of a single printer.  After a successful installation and further orders requested, Microlynx began to advertise its cabling installation service.

It soon occurred that many customers who were having data cables installed also required additional electrical sockets at the same time. As well as running a successful business Gary went back to “school” to become qualified as an electrician. Gary continued to gain further electrical qualifications to the point where he was able to achieve NIC EIC accreditation for Microlynx offering EICR, electrical contracting and data cabling within the Huddersfield, Dewsbury, and Wakefield areas…

The next step in the evolution of Microlynx was Security; it seemed to make sense that if they were running cables for power and data, why not run the cables for fire alarms, intruder alarms, access control, and CCTV. By now Microlynx were operating all across Yorkshire, Birmingham, and London, as far south as the Isle of White and even up to Scotland.

Directors Kevin and David Henderson ran several existing businesses, one of which required a contractor to install data, power, and security for their own customers. After employing the services of Microlynx for a number of years, in 2011 Kevin, David and Gary decided to join forces, becoming MicroLynx Ltd, providing increased customer satisfaction and driving both companies on to further success.

After several successful years providing cabling and electrical services, in 2016 Gary, Kevin and David decided to take MicroLynx Ltd to the next level, welcoming Security specialist Nick Doyle to their Operations and Account Management team.

Now in 2017 MicroLynx Ltd proudly boasts specialties in several different areas from Electrical testing & installation to security and Facilities Management.
